 | The early working title for this two-part episode was "Rise of the Googlions," invented by Atlantis writer Carl Binder and meaning nothing in particular."The Kindred" is expected to be the two-part episode that will feature the much-rejoiced return of former series regular Paul McGillion as Dr. Carson Beckett. The character died in an explosion while saving a man's life in Season Three's controversial episode "Sunday.""Well, spent most of the early afternoon writing the outline for 'Rise of the Googlions, Part 1.' A number of pieces fall into place as many of the things we've been building toward come to fruition (and not in a sweet apple sort of way either). Surprises in store; revelations galore."Could "The Kindred" be the story in which the Wraith Michael will return? "Hey, that's not a bad idea!""Oh, dear. This is what happens when you hang on to a gag title a little too long. Sooner or later, it makes it onto the schedule, the Art Department starts using it in their design updates, and producer John N. Smith can be heard uttering the words: 'We should check out that location. We might be up there for Googlions.' For all of you who have been racking your brains trying to come up with the hidden meaning behind the 'Rise of the Googlions' title, allow me to reveal it for you. ... 'Rise of the Googlions' was nothing more than an inane title Carl came up with off the top of his head. To all those who wasted any amount of time searching the Internet for clues about the googlions, blame Mr. Binder who unwittingly sent you all out on a wild goose chase.""Paul [Mullie], meanwhile, phoned me up to discuss some of the changes he wants to make to 'Kindred I.' The fact that Wraith ships don't possess shields certainly complicates matters, but I've always loved Paul's idea of giving them limited regenerative capabilities. And, if it survives the polish, we get to find out where Lorne grew up."Joseph Mallozzi teased fans with a single line of dialogue from "The Kindred, Part 1" in a post at his blog: "Same as you. Scavenging the ruins of a dead world."On the return of Carson Beckett: "We wanted to do it in a way that would feel organic with what we were doing for the rest of the season. ... All I'm going to say is we planned how we were going to bring him back at the end of Season Three, and no one caught it. And that's how we would like it to stay. And that story doesn't come to a boil until the end of Season Four, and that's when we're going to bring him back."The first peek at "The Kindred" appears in SCI FI Channel's new teaser for the second half of Season Four. It shows Teyla in a Wraith prison cell calling out to the Wraith Michael "Where are my people?", to which he abruptly stops and turns around (above). The teaser also offers the first glimpse of Carson Beckett, back from the dead: |
